Bio

Zdeněk Trs (*1985, Liberec) studied at the University of Applied Arts in 2004–2007 (Glass Studio at Vladimír Kopecký) and in 2007–2010 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Painting Studio IV / Zdenek Beran School). In his work, Zdeněk Trs is based on the expressive possibilities of classical painting techniques, his perfect painting is focused on the geometry and stereometry of bodies. The crescent moon, which appears in his new series, derives its meaning from Baroque iconography – it was used to represent the immaculateness of the Virgin Mary. In Egyptian mythology, the sun disk was a symbol of knowledge and a representation of Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky, sun and light. Using these symbols, Trs plays a sophisticated, minimalistic perfect game that speaks a universal language. Whether his morphology is a demonstration of physical laws or an expression of iconographic symbols, he always looks for an order on the canvas for the movement of bodies on a given format, from which an illusory three-dimensional, plastic image is finally born. Trs has been exhibiting independently since 2006, in 2015 he was awarded the CBM Art Prize - he won in the over 30 category. His work is represented in the collection of the National Gallery of the City of Prague and in private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad. Trafo Gallery published his book Earthshine in 2019.
