The exhibition Gloomy Sunday: Hungarian Madness will present the work of contemporary Hungarian artists of the middle and younger generation. The selected authors are united by a common interest in topics that deal with the flip side of the contemporary world. In their paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures and installations, they often show themes that resonate with contemporary civilization, but still seem to stand on the edge. They present questions of death, sexuality or identity in often heated situations, but often also follow artists from history, the expressive paintings of Matthias Grünewald or the hallucinatory visions of Hieronymus Bosch, as well as the work of symbolists and decadents from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

A number of the mentioned authors have already made a significant impact in the international context, their works have appeared in important international exhibitions. In the Czech environment, with the exception of Géza Szöllősi or Csaba Kis Róka, these are little-known authors, and we believe that the presentation of their work can significantly influence and inspire the Czech art scene as well. The exhibition Gloomy Sunday: Hungarian Madness presents a representative cross-section of their work.

During the opening, a bilingual publication of the same name with texts by A. S. Berber, Mário Z. Nemes, Léo-Karl d'Orfer and individual artists will be launched.
