Bio

Alžběta Jungrová (*1978) began photographing while still in primary school and attended the “Hellichovka” Secondary Technical School of Graphic Arts in 1992–1996. After this, she worked for the MF Dnes, Hospodářské noviny, and Lidové noviny newspapers. From 2000 to 2002, she lived in the United States and in London. She describes the main focus of her work as the genres of documentary and reportage photography, for she is interested in the lives of her contemporaries and is willing to travel to the far corners of the world or seek out extreme situations in order to get her photographs. Among other things, she received honorable mention from Czech Press Photo for her reportage on drugs along the Afghan-Pakistani border. Her series of photographs about children working in a brick factory in Peshawar and her images from a refugee camp in Bangladesh earned her an award from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Today, she works as a freelance photographer and is represented by one of the most prestigious commercial photography agencies, 4D Photo. She is currently working on a number of documentary projects and also does commissioned work, producing documentary photographs, advertising, and portraits. Jungrová’s non-commercial work explores the subject of human emotions and the search for one’s personal limits, either through classical photographs or in collages or video projections. She is a founding member of the 400 ASA group.
